"This year’s 40th issue of Shogakukan’s Weekly Shonen Sunday magazine is announcing the cast of the new television anime series based on Gosho Aoyama’s Magic Kaito manga. Kappei Yamaguchi will play the title magician thief and his Kaito Kuroba alter-ego, after playing the same role in the Detective Conan anime. (Yamaguchi also plays Shin’ichi Kudo himself in Detective Conan.) However, M.A.O will play Kaito’s childhood friend and classmate Aoko Nakamori; Minami Takayama (the voice of Conan Edogawa) and Yukiko Iwai played Aoko in Detective Conan, while Ayumi Fujimura played her in the 2010 Magic Kaito: Kid the Phantom Thief television special.
Eri Kitamura will play the witch Akako Koizumi, whom Megumi Hayashibara voiced in Detective Conan and Miyuki Sawashiro voiced in the Magic Kaito: Kid the Phantom Thief television special. Mamoru Miyano will play Saguru Hakuba, the son of a police superintendent and a high school detective in his own right. Akira Ishida played the character in Detective Conan.
The original Magic Kaito manga revolves around a young budding magician named Kaito Kuroba who follows in his late father’s footsteps as the legendary thief Kaitō Kid. The character has since appeared in Detective Conan stories, often as a formidable rival.
The anime is part of a project to celebrate the 20th anniversary of the Detective Conan manga’s serialization in Shonen Sunday. A-1 Pictures is animating the series that will air in the time slot before the Detective Conan anime. The Saturday anime series will premiere on October 4 at 5:30 p.m. JST.
The Magic Kaito manga was adapted into a series of television specials in 2011. Gosho launched the manga in 1987 but put the series on hiatus in 1988. The manga has been serialized irregularly since then. The fourth compiled volume shipped in 2007.” - Taken from Anime News Network
